WEEDEATER COMPANY HISTORY
In1971 Houston Texas, there lived a gentleman by the name of George Ballas who was trying to keep his lawn neatly trimmed. With frustration levels rising, he retrieved a discarded tin can from his rubbish bin with an idea to lower his workload. He punched holes in the can, threaded the holes with nylon fishing line, removed the blade from his lawn edger, bolted the can to the long shaft, and a new product was born.
Ballas later named his device the “Weed Eater”.
By 1977 sales had reached $80 million USD and had become a household name virtually everywhere it was sold. In the late 1970’s Weedeater merged with Poulan, and is now today the leading North American manufacturer of petrol, electric and battery powered handheld outdoor power equipment. It makes more lawn trimmers, blowers and chainsaws than any other manufacturer in the world. Its Nashville, Arkansas chainsaw factory is the largest single chainsaw factory in the world producing over 1 million units annually.
